January Shiatsu Updates
Thank you for your continued support of me and Shiatsu at Karuna Center for Yoga and Healing Arts. It is winter time, and that means that we are gladly moving into hibernation mode. A movement inside is the hallmark of what is known as the water phase (Winter) in Chinese medicine. So, I hope that you’re tucking in, giving yourself some time to recharge, and prepare for the bursting forward of spring that is only a few months away. (More details below)
I will be away for a few days this January, but my schedule is open to you, as always, so please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns. If my schedule doesn’t align with your needs, email or text and we’ll see what other times and dates we can come up with together.

A quick overview of the water phase and a practice of dropping downward that reflects the natural downward movement of water.
Hope to see you soon,
Paul
The Water Phase
Under heaven, nothing is more soft and yielding than water. Yet for attacking the solid and strong, nothing is better. It has no equal.
- Tao Te Ching
Water, the element that is representative of winter, is known as something that will always drop to the lowest level. Finding its way deeper and deeper. This soft element, also has a strength to it. A force that can literally move mountains as well as clear away, purify and clean.
Water also has an ability to hold and store. Much like animals in winter, this water season is an opportunity to recharge, store our energy, in preparation for the movement outward that we will experience with the spring season in a few months.
So, this month, I offer up a practice of dropping deeper into the belly, otherwise known as the Hara Chinese medicine. This is thought to be where our essence is stored.
