Depression is common in our culture.  “It appears in chronic low-grade forms that can drain a person’s energy and in more acute forms that can be completely debilitating.”  (John Wellwood) Our materialistic culture breeds depression by promoting distorted and unattainable goals for human life.  In simple terms, depression can be seen as a loss of heart. The basic goodness of the human heart, which is born tender and responsive, is eager to reach out and touch life and be touched by life.

In this workshop we will weave metta, asana, meditation, and inquiry together. The underlying essence of each of these practices is to awaken the heart, that part of us that is most tender and inherently open.

  • Metta Meditation as a loving balm
  • Asana Sequences for depression and anxiety
  • Meditation to bring us into a place of stillness
  • Inquiry to uncover where we are stuck and frozen

These four practices will be woven together to enforce each other and remove the painful layers of obstructive scaffolding, providing a doorway into abiding in a loving and open heart.

Sunday, March 4 (1:00 pm – 4:00 pm) = $45 in advance; $50 at door
